Shoulder Sleeve Insignia

Description

On a yellow rectangular shaped embroidered item arched convexly at the top and bottom, edged with a 1/8 inch blue border, between two red upright missiles in base, two red arrows crossed at the fletching with points up, at the top and between the arrows are four blue fleurs-de-lis, one, two, and one. Overall dimensions are 3” height by 2” in width.

Symbolism

Scarlet and gold are the colors of the Air Defense Artillery Branch, and blue alludes to the sky.  The shape of the shoulder sleeve insignia symbolizes a rectangular shield, representing the defense mission of the 52d Air Defense Artillery Brigade.  The crossed arrows create a Roman numeral “5”, with the two missiles suggesting the Roman numeral “2”; together they make “52”.  The fleurs-de-lis are in a 1-2-1 formation, similar to how aircrafts fly in unison. The heraldic symbols further signify the four campaign credits awarded in World War II.

Background

The shoulder sleeve insignia was approved 02 November 2022.
